Netball v Westonbirt School: A Fantastic Week of Competition and Teamwork
Term 1, Week 5
This Tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Westonbirt School to Kingshill for a series of exciting netball matches, featuring our Year 7 and Year 8 teams. With four matches played in total, the day was a wonderful showcase of our students' growing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
For the Year 7 team, this was their first chance to represent Kingshill on the netball court after just a couple of training sessions. Although many of the players are still getting to grips with the rules of the game and discovering which positions they excel in, the team demonstrated impressive teamwork from the start. Each player willingly swapped positions each quarter to ensure everyone had the chance to experience different roles on the court. Their enthusiasm and commitment were evident throughout, and special congratulations go to Matilda E, Chloe M, and Martha H, who were all awarded Player of the Match by the opposition. Well done!
Our Year 8 netballers have seen a surge of new players joining training in recent weeks, and it was exciting to see how the team performed in their first match together. Despite playing against strong competition, the new team members integrated seamlessly with the existing players. The game was a close one, but our Year 8 team triumphed with a 13-10 victory, demonstrating great resilience and teamwork. Congratulations to Hollie D, Mia B, and Poppy W, who received Player of the Match awards from their opposing teams for their outstanding performances.
On Thursday, Westonbirt hosted our Year 9 and Year 10 teams, with the sunshine making for a perfect day of netball. The Year 9 match was a thrilling encounter, with Kingshill showing immense resilience. After falling behind in the third quarter, the girls stayed calm and focused in the final quarter, fighting back to secure a 6-6 draw. It was a nail-biting finish, with both teams playing hard until the final whistle. Congratulations to Elizabeth D and Eliza B, who were named Players of the Match for their determination and skill.
The Year 10 team had a fantastic performance, securing a convincing 15-7 victory. Their teamwork in both attack and defence was exceptional, with players maintaining possession and applying constant pressure to the opposition. The team's ability to capitalise on turnover opportunities was key to their success. Player of the Match honours went to Lara F and Harriet F for their exceptional contributions on both ends of the court.
With more fixtures lined up next week against Sir William Romney and Farmors schools, we're excited for more netball action and looking forward to more fantastic performances. Fingers crossed for dry weather and continued success for all our teams!
Great job, everyone!
